Award-winning casting director Mungioli holds mock auditions
Many programs in college don’t prepare students for real life. Of course there are internships that give students some experience, but not many get a hands-on approach of how to go through an interview. Nov. 5 from noon to 7 p.m., performance students in the NDSU Theatre program and local high school students are invited to join award-winning casting director, Arnold Mungioli for a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Students will participate in auditioning and interviewing workshops with Mungioli and other casting directors.
“This year we are hosting a special ‘Audition Techniques Theatre Day’ complete with a Mock Cattle Call Group Audition conducted by Professional Casting Agents and Directors, including Arnold Mungioli, casting agent for Disney Musicals in NYC; John Stephany Miller, from the Guthrie Theatre; Hal Cropp from Commonweal Theatre; Job Christenson from Crimson Creek Theatre and representatives from SETC (the Southeastern Theatre Conference),” Associate Professor in the Theatre Arts Department Pamela Chabora said.
Arnold Mungioli founded Mungioli Theatricals, Inc. in 2001. Winner of several awards, Mungioli has relationships with many well known theatrical companies including Disney, Stage Holdings, Trinity Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville and New York University.
Having previously held the position of Executive Director of Casting for Disney Theatrical Productions, Mungioli was responsible for the casting of many productions including “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aida.” He also spent six years as Senior Vice President of Casting & Creative Development for Livent, Inc., an international producing organization. While at Livent, Inc., he cast such shows as “Ragtime,” “Fosse,” “Showboat,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Kiss of the Spiderwoman.”
Students will sit in on workshops covering auditioning and learning more about the business of theater. Also, by participating in the “Mock Cattle Call” students will be prepared to do the real thing when they go to audition for shows in the real world. Those attending the “Mock Cattle Call” can observe and experience what a real professional audition is like since it is open for the public to observe at 3-7 p.m. in Askanase Theatre.
Registration for this event is free. Register online at www.ndsu.edu/finearts/theatre. Contact Pamela Chabora at 701-231-6657 for more information.
