Legendary rock band Aerosmith is in search of a new vocalist. Steven Tyler, the iconic lead singer of the band, has not been able to perform because of recent problems. The band had been going through some turbulent times because of Tyler’s behavior.
Aerosmith had to cancel their summer tour in August because Tyler fell off the stage and injured himself. To make matters worse, none of the band members had any contact with Tyler for months.According to Billboard.com, Tyler currently is in rehab for an addiction to painkillers.
Tyler had announced on Dec. 22 that he wanted to “enthusiastically be writing, recording and performing with Aerosmith as soon as things are handled.” But guitarist Joe Perry seems to be quite skeptical about Tyler’s return.
“He has to have leg surgery and foot surgery and it’s basically going to take him out of the picture for about a year.”
“So, in the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play. And I want to play with the other guys in Aerosmith. So the four of us are just making our plans,” Perry said.
According to Perry, this is not the first time a member of Aerosmith got replaced.
“We’re gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot. Just like when Tom was sick – we got David Hull to come in and play bass. When Brad was sick, we got somebody else to come in and play for him. That’s basically how I look at it; we need another singer to fill in,” Perry said.
Perry hoped that Tyler would eventually return to the band. “I’m ready to write with him and to play on stage with him anytime he’s physically ready and wants to do it. But it’s really up to him.
“And the last thing he said to the press was that he wanted to work with the band and sing with the band, so we’ll see,” Perry said.
Aerosmith is currently preparing for their 40th anniversary in 2011.
