Gimme, gimme some cover band music
Me First & the Gimme Gimmes
Love Their Country
Fat Wreck Chords; 2006
Grade: A
As they say themselves, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes is not the best band in the world.
Just the best cover band in the world.
Punk music fans have known this fact for years. And Me First just keeps getting better.
Me First is an original cover band, in the sense that they take other peoples songs and make them their own, transforming old favorites into punk rock classics. In the past they have covered love songs, ’60s and ’70s hits and even Broadway show tunes.
Now in their sixth full-length release, Love Their Country, they tackle country music.
This album is great for country music lovers. However, even if someone doesn’t like country music, this album is sure to please.
Hits on the album include Garth Brooks’ “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” the Eagles’ “Desperado” and Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”
These songs are all remade in the classic punk genre. Featuring hard, fast guitar riffs and loud, in-your-face singing, Me First does a great job of putting a new twist on some old favorites.
Take a look at a group that Punk fans have been crowding clubs to see for the last 15 years. Grab a copy of Love Their Country by Me First & the Gimme Gimmes.
Fans won’t be disappointed.
