Homecoming week loaded with activities


Homecoming is coming up, and Campus Attractions is planning plenty of events for students. Here is a brief preview of what’s going on next week:

Monday, Oct. 9

8 p.m.: Barn Dance in Shepperd Arena:

Students can grab their cowboy hats and get ready to show off their Mid-western culture at the barn dance in Sheppard Arena.

St. Louis rock group Spur will perform. The band has opened for musicians including Tim McGraw, Sugarland, Bob Dylan, Natalie Merchant, Better than Ezra and John Mayer.

Anyone interested in meeting the band can stop by the Campus Attractions table in the Memorial Union for a chance to win VIP passes.

Tuesday, Oct. 10

11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Meet the Candidates

8 p.m.: Comedian Kelly Taylor

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. students can head over to the Memorial Union and meet the candidates before they vote for the 2006 Homecoming King and Queen Wednesday.

In the evening comedian Kelly Taylor will be performing in the Festival Concert Hall. Taylor has showcased with the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Happy Madison Productions and the Comedy Network.

Wednesday, Oct. 11

11:30 a.m.: House and Hall Decoration

6 p.m.: Dessert Theatre

Organizations can compete by decorating their house or hall. The competition is based on theme, creativity, detail and overall appearance. Groups must have a building on campus or along the perimeter of campus. Contact the Homecoming Committee for further information.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Nick Motil will perform in the Memorial Union, presented by Campus Attractions and Coffeehouse Committee.

In the evening a dessert theater will be held in the Memorial Union Ballroom and the film “Footloose” starring Kevin Bacon, will be shown. Sign up by Monday at the Homecoming table in the Union.

Thursday, Oct. 12

6:30 p.m.: Powder Puff Competition at Dakota Field

8:30 p.m.: Pep Rally and Yell-Like-Hell Competition

The Powder Puff Competition will feature eight female teams consisting of nine players that represent an NDSU group. The games will be played at Dakota Field. The guys won’t be left out — they can be captains or cheerleaders! Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.

At 8:30 p.m., a pep rally will be held on Dakota Field. All organizations must have an original cheer and may enter a competition to receive spirit points.

Friday, Oct. 13

7:30 p.m.: Blue Key Homecoming Show and Bison Ambassadors Coronation in Festival Concert Hall

The actual Homecoming Show lets NDSU students show their school pride as well as witness the crowning of the 2006 King and Queen. Variety acts will also be performed.
