Playmakers’ Venue keeps live acts coming

Jars of Clay, Modest Mouse, 30 Seconds to Mars to perform later this spring

In the past six months, Fargo has made its way onto the tour schedules of dozens of national acts.

Since its Sept. 7 opening, Playmaker’s Venue has brought in such big names as Public Enemy, Frank Black, Cursive, the Black Crowes, Sepultura, Powerman 5000 and Papa Roach.

This spring the list of live acts performing at the Venue will get even longer.

Tonight Invitro and Diecast open for heavy metal group Sevendust.

Since 1997 Sevendust has released five studio albums and a live album on the independent label TVT Records.

Four of those records have landed the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart and three have been certified gold.

Next month Sevendust will release their sixth studio album, entitled Alpha.

March appears to be a big month for the Venue.

Death metal group Lamb of God will perform with special guests Trivium and Gojira on March 7 and on March 10 Christian group Jars of Clay will take the Playmakers stage.

Jars of Clay is known for bringing contemporary Christian music to the mainstream during the ’90s.

Their 1995 self-titled, multi-platinum debut album contained the smash single “Flood,” and launched a steady career lasting well over a decade.

The group is currently promoting their latest album, Good Monsters, which has been propelled to the top of the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart by the single “Dead Man (Carry Me).”

Joining Jars of Clay are NeedToBreathe and duo Steven Delopoulos and John Philippidis from the group Burlap to Cashmere, who hasn’t recorded an album since their 1998 major-label debut “Anybody Out There?”

Indie rock group Modest Mouse is performing at the Venue on March 19.

The band had recorded five albums before finally breaking into the mainstream with 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News.

The album featured the hit singles “Float On” – which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts – and “Ocean Breathes Salty.” Good News was eventually certified platinum.

Modest Mouse is currently in the middle of a worldwide tour.

Their seventh studio album, We Were Dead Before, is scheduled for a March 13 release date.

Actor Jared Leto – known for his roles in “Requiem for a Dream,” “Fight Club” and “Panic Room” – fronts a rock band known as 30 Seconds to Mars.

The group has caused a stir with their 2005 album A Beautiful Lie, featuring the singles “From Yesterday” and “The Kill (Bury Me).”

Playmakers will host 30 Seconds to Mars on April 2.

The Venue has recently announced an April performance by hip-hop group Kottonmouth Kings. They will be joined by Kingspade, Sen Dog and Dog Boy.

The Venue, known as the Pavilion before it was reconstructed, was completed this fall after nearly $4 million was spent on renovations.

It is located in the Playmakers Entertainment Complex in Fargo.

The Venue can hold an audience of up to 2,000 people.
