LCD album sincere, hint of cynicism

During the long cold winter months I allowed the back seat of my car to accumulate garbage.

Then, on a warm spring day I went outside to my car with a garbage bag, a vacuum cleaner, Armor All, a bottle of Windex and paper towels.

I began to cleanse the hell out of my car. After that chore was completed, I drove to a distant car wash and got a premium wash.

As the wash is winding down and the blowers are drying my car I roll down the window and press play on the CD player.

This is a springtime ritual, and the CD I listen to is an album carefully chosen for this moment of bliss.

This year I chose the new album from LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver.

It is fantastic.

The sound is a little bit like electronic dance punk from New York – actually that is exactly what it is.

The lead singer is sincere with only a hint of cynicism.

The single from the record, “North American Scum,” is the feel good hit of the summer.   It is a song about not feeling ashamed to be from North America.

I have been waiting to hear a song like this for years.

I rolled out onto the avenue and drove my fresh, clean car at a safe speed while I proudly polluted the atmosphere and contributed to the eventual destruction of the planet.

It felt good.  It felt very good.
