Battle of the bulge

I am a junk-food addict. There, I said it; I’m out of denial.

I feel like I’m the only one I know who can be completely full or not even hungry and still find room to eat junk food.

Especially chocolate, which is my worst eating vice. I basically love anything that isn’t good for me.

Ever since I was little, I have been the queen of candy. My sweet tooth gets the best of me every day.

During my first year of college, I bet that my roommate and I went through a 12-pack of pop a week.

I ate so unhealthy, and yet I didn’t gain hardly any weight.

Since freshman year is infamous for the “Freshman 15,” I thought for sure I was doomed.

Well, the busy life I had in my first year kept me in the clear, but the past two years haven’t been as successful.

College is a huge world of temptation, and food falls right into the middle of the temptation category. Most college students are guilty of eating unhealthy.

It’s a heck of a lot easier to simply order pizza, run to McDonald’s or microwave a burrito than it is to make a semi-healthy meal.

Besides, pepperoni and cheese tastes a lot better than steamed broccoli and rice.

Junk food seems to be a lot easier, cheaper and tastier.

It’s causing a huge weight gain on campuses across the nation.

In high school, I was always active. Extracurricular activities filled up every week until I graduated. Now, going to the gym is the last thing I want to do.

What is it about college that makes students stop caring about their bodies and health?

I never would have thought that I would fall into the demographic of the lazy college student.

This year, I’m going to make my New Year’s resolution a little early.

I’m going to try to put a stop to my bad eating habits right now.

Eating healthy and working out is hard to do.

That’s why most students start with good intentions in mind, but soon become prey to college eating habits.

I think I’m going to spare myself the heart attack and high cholesterol right now and attempt a healthier life.

Instead of the pepperoni-lovers pizza, I think I’m going to try the Veggie-Delite.

Plus, I was looking at the Wellness Center’s Web page last night, and it seems as if it has some really fun group-exercise classes that would help keep things mixed up and interesting.

Trying something new never hurt anyone.

I’ll try to keep a record of my progress this year and do a follow-up at the end of the school year. We’ll see how successful I was at beating the odds and not gaining any weight.

I encourage students to join me in accepting the challenge of beating the battle of the bulge this year.
