Creative Halloween

costumes

When it comes to dressing up for Halloween, the sky is the limit.

I think I’ve seen just about every costume I could ever imagine this weekend.

Whether NDSU students went with a traditional or an extraordinary costume, everyone had their own personal touches to create their individual look.

There are always the usual categories that you can always look forward to seeing every year.

First, there’s the occupation costume. This can range anywhere from a cop or nurse to a firefighter or a businessperson.

Then, of course there is the animal category. At the top of this list is, of course, the bunny. I’ve seen this costume done time and time again, with only a change in how much fabric or accessories a person uses to complete the look.

It seems as though less is more when it comes to the bunny costume, although I’ve seen that idea become the trend with pretty much any costume that girls wear.

Some other animal costumes that I saw this weekend include a penguin, kitten, lion and a cow.

Then, of course you have the obvious costumes, which include the schoolgirl or football player, the grim reaper and an angel or fairy and the cowboy or Indian.

I did see a couple this year that I had to give kudos to.

My friend pointed out a couple of girls who dressed up like Ashlee and Jessica Simpson that impressed me quite a bit. They both looked the part.

I dressed up like a boxer girl this year. It was a pink and black costume that I added a few additional pieces from Victoria’s Secret to as a personal touch.

I thought it turned out fairly well. I think Halloween is probably my second favorite holiday, right after Christmas, of course.

I think it’s hilarious how people get the chance to dress up in whatever they want and look like a complete fool, and it doesn’t matter.

When it comes to Halloween costumes, the cheesier the better. It’s also known that for girls, the less you wear the more popular your costume is.

I have seen enough naughty nurses, girl scouts, devils and cheerleaders to last me until next Halloween.

You have to love the cartoon character costumes as well. I saw a fairly interesting batman costume this weekend and a totally different side of what a UPS man usually looks like when they come to my doorstep.

It’s all in good fun though and I can’t wait till I can start planning next year’s ensemble.

I hope everyone has a really good time getting dressed up tonight, and I’m going to be looking for those who went above and beyond to make sure they get noticed when they walk in the room.

That is what Halloween is really all about. Kudos to those who aren’t afraid to step outside the box.
