Renovations not worth the headache
So I’m sitting at my desk trying to read a few chapters from one of my class textbooks when my concentration is crumbled by the sound of hammers, drills and who knows what other tool.
The rattling, grinding noises were enough to send a person to the loony bin. I tried to concentrate on what I was reading but the task was absolutely impossible with all the racket that was going on.
I know the renovations being completed in the Memorial Union are important
and students are patiently waiting for the construction crew to finish up,
but breaking down walls next to offices where people are trying to work is
inconsiderate and rude.
On more than one occasion I’ve had to politely reschedule an over-the-phone
interview for the Spectrum because those darn construction guys are practically
bringing down the building.
I know it may prolong the construction a little bit but there are a lot of offices that were moved downstairs because of construction.
Administrative, Spectrum and Student Government Offices are all located right next to one of the construction areas and there are people in those offices that are trying to get something accomplished.
Now, not only am I upset about the noise that’s vibrating in my head all day long, but also the guys working have really bad language. I don’t know if I just happen to be working next to a group of guys who were having a bad day or what, but every other word that came out of their mouth was profanity.
I swear quite often myself but not while I’m working around other people I don’t know; it’s very inconsiderate. I guess I just think, wouldn’t you be able to relieve any stress or anger problems you might have by drilling through a couple walls everyday; it’s just a thought.
I’m probably just being childish but I cherish the couple of hours each day I have to sit down at my computer and get work done, and now it has been taken away from me.
Couldn’t they at least do all the heavy drilling and pounding either in the morning or late afternoon?
At least people would probably be done with the bulk of their daily agenda and be willing to compromise a couple hours of head-splitting pounding for a couple hours of peaceful work.
I know I would definitely be up for the plan. The idea of having all this new and improved building space is exciting, but the booming, bangs, thuds and profanity are becoming increasingly annoying to deal with.
If the noise doesn’t ease up a little bit, it’s going to be a long semester for me, but that’s just one girl’s opinion. Happy Headaches!
