Car shopping blues
When a high school student gets their drivers license, in most cases
they start driving an old car with lots of miles on it.
These cars are often missing paint, have mystery stains on the seats and always make funny noises.
My car meets all of these stipulations, and therefore deserves to find a new home in some high school kid’s heart.
With that being said, if anyone knows of a high school kid looking for a car, I have one for sale.
It has years of experience on the road, unique interior color schemes and is full of surprises.
I just recently started looking for a car about a week ago, and already I have a headache.
I decided since everything that could go wrong with my car accept the tires falling off (knock on wood) has happened, maybe I should start saving for something actually made in this millennium.
I started saving up money and finally after months of only buying two shirts instead of five at the mall, I think I have a good financial base to start looking around.
Let me tell you, it’s no picnic looking for a new car. The ones I want are not even close to what I can afford and the ones I can afford, aren’t much different then the one I already own.
I just want something dependable that gets good gas mileage and won’t look like something my grandmother would own.
I wish there was a Web site you could go to where all you had to type in was your location and how much you could afford to pay, and the Web site would give you a nice little list of all the vehicles that are in a 50 mile radius of your location.
There may actually be a Web site out there that does this, but I don’t know what it is.
Fact of the matter is I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for. I don’t know what models are considered good cars, and I don’t know what a “good price” is for most vehicles.
If every vehicle were priced the same, I would know whether or not I’m getting a good price for how many miles are on the car.
It all depends on what kind of vehicle it is and then you have to take into consideration what comes with the vehicle as far as accessories are concerned. If that isn’t enough, you also have to check if it has a damaged title on it and take that into consideration as well.
The idea of all these factors coming into play is just too much for my mind to wrap around.
I’m just a girl. Ask me what jeans make your butt look the nicest or what color looks best on you, I’m your girl. Ask me to pick out a car with the biggest bang for my buck, and I’m lost.
I guess I’ll just have to rely on my best judgment and the help of a person who knows a lot more about cars than I do — my dad.
