Recycling aluminum cans helps grant a wish
Donate an aluminum can and make a wish come true.
Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Dakota is partnering with MinnKota Recycling and Clear Channel Radio to help grant wishes to North Dakota children.
The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Dakota is to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
Now through Sept. 4, cans are being accepted at all MinnKota Recycling locations in Fargo, Moorhead, Grand Forks, N.D., and Detroit Lakes, Minn., on behalf of Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Clear Channel Radio also has a MinnKota Recycling Center set up in their parking lot on 25th Street in Fargo.
MinnKota Recycling will donate 100 percent of the proceeds plus an additional 1 cent per pound.
The closest can drop-off location to NDSU is 901 4th Ave. N. The facility is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Kim Bair, Make-A-Wish special events and volunteer coordinator, encourages college students to donate aluminum cans for the cause.
“ By recycling your cans for Make-A-Wish, you will be helping to bring special memories to children in North Dakota that have a life-threatening medical condition. You will help us replace doctors’ appointments and needles with fun and excitement,” Bair said.
Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Dakota has granted 36 wishes this year, which is a record-high number for the organization.
Early this year, a girl met Orlando Bloom, co-star of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and a boy visited Dukes Fest in Nashville, Tenn.
This summer a young boy’s wish was to be a Jedi, so Make-A-Wish sent him to Jedi training at MGM Studios in Orlando.
A 15-year-old boy left this week to meet Dog the Bounty Hunter in Hawaii.
More than 420 wishes have been granted in North Dakota since Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Dakota began in 1985.
Volunteer positions are available for wish-granters, fundraising and public speaking.
