Cold Stone Creamery hosts Make-A-Wish fundraiser

Comedian Dave Coulier performed to a full house of MSUM students Tuesday night.

Coulier, who is known for playing Uncle Joey on the television series “Full House,” entertained students with a 45-minute stand up comedy routine dealing with airport security, international travel, cartoon character impersonations and relationships as part of MSUM’s homecoming week.

A camera crew filmed his performance in order to use the footage for Coulier’s upcoming movie, “Cut It Out.”

Another standup comic, Mike Jr., opened the show with a short routine featuring jokes about college life, fast food, drinking and his own thinning hairline.

He said that he had had difficulty deciding whether to wear his hair “parted, un-parted, or departed.”

Coulier took the stage after Mike Jr.’s routine.

Other than a one-liner near the beginning of his act, he made no mention of his work in “Full House,” focusing more on other material.

He began by talking about life as a touring comedian, particularly the amount of time he has spent in airports.

He poked fun at airport security and airline pilots, demonstrating how he would make passengers uncomfortable if he were the pilot.

Donning a high-pitched, squeaky voice, he impersonated a nervous, inexperienced pilot who was unsure of how to handle even the most basic flying procedures.

Later in his sketch, Coulier demonstrated how to pass for a local in any culture.

All a person needs to do, he explained, is say a particular phrase with the correct accent and it will sound like the language of the country he or she is visiting.

For instance, a person can pretend to speak Spanish by saying, “Eat a lot of potatoes and go and play Bingo” with a Spanish accent.

Coulier also demonstrated how the technique would work in France, India and China.

Other highlights of the show included Coulier bantering with various hecklers, an impromptu harmonica solo, a Shaquille O’Neal impersonation and a demonstration on how flapping one’s arms and quacking like a duck can get a person out of any awkward situation.

Coulier’s performance was well received by the crowd. Laughs and cheers were abundant and Coulier received a standing ovation at the end of his act.

Besides doing standup comedy and acting in “Full House,” Coulier has done voiceovers for several cartoons, including “Scooby Doo,” “Robot Chicken,” “The Real Ghostbusters,” a re-syndicated version of “The Jetsons,” and “Felix the Cat.”

He also did voices for “The Muppet Babies,” playing the characters of Animal and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.

He formed his own children’s entertainment company, F3, in 2001, according to the Internet Movie Database.

According to cutitout.net, a fan site endorsed at the performance, Coulier has also hosted “Animal Kidding” on the Animal Planet Network and ABC’s America’s Funniest People.
