New CSO commissioner appointed
Printing policy addressed
A new Congress of Student Organizations commissioner was approved at the Senate meeting on Sunday to replace former commissioner Valerie Johnson.
Brianne Montgomery, an off-campus senator, was appointed as CSO commissioner by Student President Dante Miller and approved unanimously by the Senate.
Miller said praised Montgomery, saying she was “highly qualified.”
Johnson, who served in the position since appointment and approval last spring, left the position due to a new full-time job.
She said she didn’t feel like she would best represent the students with her new commitments.
The senate, however, nominated and approved Johnson as a student-at-large on the CSO commission, noting that it would allow for a good transition.
The senate also approved a $795.50 payment to Valerie Johnson for her services so far.
All commissioners receive a tuition stipend for their work.
The CSO commissioner receives a stipend equaling two-thirds of in-state tuition, which would be $1,591 per semester for the 2006-2007 school year. The payment is exactly half of that.
Miller said that Johnson worked hard and deserved to be compensated.
A resolution for senate support of a larger printing allocation and a separate fee for printing were also read for the first time.
The resolution, if passed as currently written, will represent official senate support for ITS to follow those suggestions.
High Rise/LLC Sen. Robert Foertsch said that making printing a separate fee would allow students to better know how their fee is being spent.
Two senate seats were also filled through appointment.
Former Student President Craig Kilber was appointed to serve in the Graduate Studies seat.
“ It’s good to be back,” Kilber said.
Lindsey Ternes, a freshman in criminal justice, was appointed to serve in the vacant High Rise/LLC seat.
Other appointments included Ternes to the CSO commission and Sen. Henderson to Appointments Committee.
