Frats dance in the dirt to raise cash

The annual Dancin’ in the Dirt event, sponsored by FarmHouse Fraternity and Ceres Women’s Fraternity, was held Thursday night to raise money for the families of North Dakota troops sent to Iraq.

The event was held in Shepperd Arena and featured a live band, Colt 45.

“ We figured that everybody knows somebody in the military and a lot of us know somebody that has been over in Iraq, so we thought it would be a good way of helping people we know,” said Amy Peterson, president of Ceres Women’s Fraternity.

Although a final total of the money raised hasn’t yet been reached, the goal is from $1,000 to $1,500, said Jon Gussiaas, service chair for FarmHouse.

In the past, the event featured a disc jockey and attendance suffered.

So, for the past two years, the event has featured a live band, Gussiaas said.

“ We had a lot more people show up with the band,” Gussiaas said.

Gussiaas said the only downside to hiring a live band is that it takes more out of the profit for the event.

The proceeds from the event will go to families of those in the North Dakota National Guard.
