Hall and Miller crowned Homecoming King and Queen

The audience roared with screams as former Homecoming King Jeremy Adelman and Queen Jocelyn Essler teased the audience with who would be crowned the new king and queen.

The screams reached their peak when the crowns landed on Noah Hall and Julianne Miller.

This was just one of many surprises at the “Dancing through The Decades” Homecoming show held Oct. 13 at the Festival Concert Hall.

The show, which was hosted by Blue Key, ended the night with the coronation ceremony that made Hall the new king and Miller the new queen.

The show itself featured much more than the coronation, however.

A wide variety of skits and a charity presentation from Lost and Found Ministry also took place. Awards were presented for Homecoming Week participation.

Emcees Emily Coler and Kevin Teigen presented several skits to entertain the audience. Bison Ambassadors, the NDSU dance and cheer teams and several fraternities and sororities also made appearances on stage.

One of the emcee skits was “Top 10 Things We Learned from Freshman while Teaching Freshman” based on observations made by Teigen and Coler while mentoring University 189 classes.

Teigen announced the top of the list was the fact that “popped collars really do look ridiculous.”

Another skit featured the Bison Ambassadors performing their version on how NDSU was founded.

The skit emulated a silent, subtitled comedy from the 1930s and featured guys obsessing over the location of Weible Hall.

Even Thundar made an appearance, performing his rendition of the popular web video “Evolution of Dance.” The audience gave him a standing ovation.

Ballots for an “Audience Choice” award were randomly distributed to several audience members so they could vote for their favorite skit.

Representatives from Lost and Found Ministry, the charity which received proceeds from the $5 admission ticket to the show, also thanked Blue Key and the audience for their help.

“ On the behalf of the Board of Directors of Lost and Found [Ministry], we would like to thank you very sincerely,” one of the representatives said. “This is a great show and now you gave us money. What a deal.”

Awards were then presented for groups that acquired the most SPIRIT points gained by attending and participating in Homecoming Week activities

The awards were split in the following tiers: Greek, Student Organizations and Students at Large.

First place winners included Alpha Tau Omega and and Alpha Gamma Delta for the Greek category, Student Government for the Student Organization category and Weible Hall for the Students at Large category.

Special awards were also given out as well.

The SPAM award, which stands for Spirit, Pep and Motivation, was awarded to Alpha Gamma Rho for the largest attendance at the Homecoming Show.

Alpha Gamma Rho and Kappa Delta won the Audience Choice award and Bison Ambassadors won the Judges’ Choice award for their skits.

The coronation itself occurred after the awards and was hosted by emcees Kelsey Filpula and Jon Schrek.

Last year’s king and queen were introduced, as well as each candidate.

The emcees announced each candidate along with information like organizations they represented, their hometowns, their favorite food and various other random facts

Adelman and Essler announced the results from the online vote that took place from Wednesday and Thursday.

Both Hall and Miller they felt “excited” about being chosen.

“ It was a fun night and we had an awesome week together,” said Miller.
