Miss NDSU mock beauty pageant brings comic relief to campus
Beauty pageants aren’t just about beauty.
That’s why the Miss NDSU mock beauty pageant provides a comical outlook on what it means to be in a beauty pageant.
Alpha Tau Omega is sponsoring the seventh annual Miss NDSU pageant 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Festival Concert Hall.
Four judges will evaluate the ladies on their performance during the lip sync, skit, formal wear and question and answer portion.
The audience’s participation toward the nominees — as well as their tickets sales — also accounts for a percentage of the points needed to win the competition.
“ It is a mock beauty pageant, so it is a fun event with lots of laughs,” Brenton Nesemeier, ATO special events chair, said. “The girls really enjoy it and have as much fun as the audience.”
All proceeds will go to Nokomis, a local foundation that benefits underprivileged children in the community.
“ Children are an asset to any community and ATO feels that we need to sponsor such an amazing institution,” Nesemeier, said.
ATO raised $5,000 at last year’s event, and more than 800 people were in the audience.
“ Miss NDSU creates a fun, exciting and electric atmosphere full of laughter, enjoyment and a place to get away from the hassles of college life,” Jonathan Foss, ATO rush and recruitment chairman, said.
Tickets for the show can be purchased from the Miss NDSU nominees or at the booth in front of the Varsity Mart Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets can also be purchased at the door the day of the event.
Tickets are $6, $5 with a canned good or 2 tickets for $10.
