Tips for staying safe on campus
At 4:50 p.m. Aug. 29, the first of two assaults on campus this semester occurred. A female student was approached from behind, grabbed around the waist and right hand by a black male. The suspect followed the victim from Weible Hall to RF lot until she entered her car and left the area, according to the NDSU Campus Police Department.
The second assault happened at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in T lot. According to police, a female student was assaulted and robbed by an unknown male who pulled her from her car and attempted to sexually assault her. When the victim resisted, the suspect grabbed her purse and stole the cash inside.
As a result of these incidents, Captain William MacDonald of the NDSU police department suggests the following to keep safe:•Use a buddy system. Don’t go anywhere alone, especially at night.
• Call 231-8998 for a police escort on campus. They are available 24 hours a day.
• Take a self-defense course.
• Buy a loud whistle or panic device to put on your key chain.
• Keep vehicles and rooms locked at all times.
“ We encourage people to call with any suspicious activity, no matter how little it may seem,” MacDonald said.
The NDSU police have also put up surveillance cameras in parking lots around campus which will remain in place until further notice, MacDonald said.
