Weber honored at Blue Key ceremony
Michael Weber, music professor and associate choral director, was honored yesterday as the Blue Key Distinguished Educator.
A banquet and ceremony was held in the Memorial Union Ballroom at 5:30 p.m., to recognize Weber for his extraordinary interest in students and their daily challenges, education and field of expertise at NDSU.
Blue Key created the Blue Key Distinguished Educator Award in 1969 to honor an outstanding educator each year at NDSU.
The club nominates professors who show extreme care for their students’ success and then vote for the person they feel most deserving.
“ The chosen educator must have shown outstanding qualities, especially in helping students above and beyond what is required,” Jason Roise, equipment manager for Blue Key Honor Society, said.
Weber conducts the Madrigal Singers and University Chorus at NDSU and teaches classes in choral conducting, choral literature and music education.
He is also the conductor and artistic director for the Grand Forks, N.D., Master Chorale.
In addition, he conducts the Cathedral Choir at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
“ Dr. Weber cares not only that his students learn the curriculum, but also that they enjoy the education process,” Roise said. “He is not just an instructor to his students; he is a caring friend who has the goal to enrich the lives around him.”
Weber also has extensive experience as a music director, conductor and stage director for numerous musical theatre productions in Maryland, Texas, California and North Dakota.
Blue Key honored Weber with an award and an engraving of his name on a plaque with previous winners.
Attending the banquet were previous winners, music department faculty, friends and family of Weber and Blue Key members.
