Engineers recognized for contributions through Engineering Week celebration
Engineers contribute to students’ lives every day, although many people don’t know how they are affected by engineers.
Throughout the upcoming week, the nation will recognize the contributions and promote interest in the engineering field by celebrating Engineering Week.
Engineering Week is a nationwide event that will be held Feb. 18-24.
NDSU and the College of Engineering and Architecture have organized several activities in celebration of this week.
“The purpose of the week is to celebrate the engineering profession and the contributions that engineers make to our everyday lives. Also, it motivates youths to pursue engineering careers in order to provide a diverse and informed engineering workforce,” said Nancy Rossland, assistant to the dean for college relations. “Our college does that through a series of events aimed at our E&A students, NDSU campus and the F-M community.”
Events scheduled for this year’s Engineering Week include the E&A student organization leaders luncheon, doughnut day and E&A day at the mall.
A complete schedule of events can be found at the College of Engineering and Architecture Web site.
E&A day at the mall is a new event this year designed to showcase NDSU to the community.
“Engineering and architecture students will be on hand to provide information about the college and careers in architecture and engineering,” Rossland said.
The event will be held 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Feb. 24 at West Acres Regional Shopping Center.
E&A day will feature the concrete canoe, formula car, baja car, steel bride and the quarter scale tractor.
Architecture students will be there as well, showing off projects and offering several hands on activities for children, Rossland said.
NDSU plans to continue celebrating the event in the future and is continuously looking for new ways to improve the event.
“This is only the second year that our college has really celebrated Engineering Week, so we are adding new activities each year with the hopes that this will grow to be a week our students look forward to each year,” Rossland said.
Students who participate in the event can expect to learn about engineering and the positive contributions this field makes to our daily lives.
