Holbrook announces retirement
Sandra Holbrook, director of the Office for Equity and Diversity, has announced that after 33 years at North Dakota State University, she will retire this summer.
Holbrook began her career at NDSU in 1974 in the Division of Continuing Studies. She became the director of the Office for Equity and Diversity in 1977.
In addition, Holbrook has been a co-chair of the NDSU President’s Diversity Council since its creation in 2001. She is a member of the NDSU Anti-Racism Team and an active participant in Training Our Campuses Against Racism (TOCAR) and Higher Education Anti-Racism Team (HEART).
Holbrook serves as a member of the Extension Service Change Agent States consortium, a multi-state project to create organizational change related to diversity. She is a member of the NDSU Extension Service catalyst team.
Holbrook is also a member of the NDSU Women’s Studies Advisory board. She has developed and taught a women’s studies course on gender issues and the law.
Holbrook is still a frequent presenter to classes, student, faculty, staff and community groups on a range of diversity topics in employment and education including equal opportunity, affirmative action and sexual harassment.
Holbrook has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Oregon, a master’s degree in education from NDSU and a doctorate in educational administration and higher education from the University of Minnesota.
A search committee of 17 faculty and staff members and two students has started looking for candidates to fill Holbrook’s position.
According to John Adams, vice president for business and finance and search committee chair, the closing date for applications was Friday, Feb. 2. On Monday, Feb. 5, a subcommittee met to begin work on the applicant list. Currently, there are 58 applicants.
Members of the search committee include Charles Peterson, dean of pharmacy; Susie Council, assistant to the dean of business/student services; Manjusha Gupte, assistant professor of criminal justice and political science; Duane Hauck, director of the NDSU Extension Service; Laura McDaniel, executive director for marketing communications; Kevin McCaul, dean of science and math; Canan Bilen-Green, associate professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering; Colette Erickson, associate director of human resources; Lynn Dorn, women’s athletic director; Valrey Kettner, associate vice president for sponsored programs administration; Gene Berry, associate professor of veterinary and microbiological sciences; Don Schwert, professor and director of the center for science and math; Jaclynn Davis Wallette, director of multicultural student services; Chris Winjum, equity and diversity assistant; Kristina Peterson, graduate research assistant; David Sperl, student and Tolu Amele, student.
