Health Fair is ‘wild’

The 2007 NDSU Health Fair’s theme is “Wild 4 Wellness” and will be held Wednesday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the new Memorial Union Ballroom.

All NDSU students, staff and faculty are invited to attend the free event.

More than 50 vendors will be on site to entertain and educate NDSU students, faculty and staff on a vast array of health and wellness topics.

Some of the topics include diet, nutrition and eating disorders, tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse and prevention, financial health, preventing and alleviating stress and tips for safe travel.

Students can participate in drawings for prizes including a bike, an iPod and other items.

Another way students can be involved is by picking up a stamp card as they enter the Health Fair and have it stamped by at least eight booths.

After viewing the booths turn the card in at the Wellness Education Leaders table to be eligible to win door prizes donated by area business and organizations.

A booth will also be set up at the health fair for the WELs Recruitment campaign.

The WELs is a group of NDSU students who promote wellness by increasing awareness about health issues through peer education, including exercise and nutrition, sexual and relationship health issues, contraception, stress reduction, alcohol abuse and tobacco cessation.

WELs members gain experience in public speaking and leadership.

Members also take part in organizing, promoting and holding events on campus.

The WELs work to increase knowledge about the seven dimensions of wellness and other health topics of interest to students.

Students of any major are encouraged to apply for WELs membership by filling out an application at the Wellness Center Control Desk or at the Student Activities Office in the Memorial Union.

The application form can also be found on the Wellness Center Web site. Applications are due by April 13.

Each blood donor will receive a T-shirt.
