Start the year out with a Bison Bash

Students have a chance to jump right back into the swing of things next fall with Bison Bash—it will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at the Wellness Center.

“This is a new event that welcomes new students to campus and old ones back,” said Brianne Montgomery, congress of student organizations commissioner. “The purpose of this event is for the students to have a good time, meet new people and see what NDSU has to offer.”

Bison Bash will serve as the kick-off into the Weeks of Welcome which starts on the first day of classes with a barbecue and extends over the first weeks of the semester

At Bison Bash students can enjoy the new wellness center facilities such as the climbing wall, racquetball, volleyball and basketball courts and fitness classes.

“We may have activities outside in the parking lot as well,” Montgomery said. “Having a dance in the parking lot is one option.”

Another idea is having inflatable games outside, Josh Boschee, coordinator of Greek life said.

“The idea of Bison Bash is similar to an event called SU Palooza, an event held a few years ago to get students initiated to life at NDSU,” Montgomery said.

Booths with representatives from organizations on campus will be set up for new and old students to see what is available at NDSU

“We would like students to see how involved students are at NDSU and find something that is a good fit for them,” Montgomery said.

The event is free and open to all students and their families said Boschee.

“Many students may be in the process of moving at this point so we want everyone to feel welcome,” Boschee said. “We hope to see over 1,000 people at this event.”

Bison Bash has been organized by the Weeks of Welcome committee, Residence Hall Assistance, Student Government, Bison Ambassadors, Campus Attractions, Greek Life and International Student Association, Wellness Center and Wellness Education Leaders.

“Food and door prizes will be provided,” Boschee said. “We hope to see everyone there.”
