Letter: Sign switch a funny prank
I would like to thank the perpetrators of this weekend’s “sign switcharoo” for a good laugh.
It was a funny, tasteful and, ultimately, harmless prank. I think most students got a good chuckle about walking into the newly redesigned Van Es (Stevens) Auditorium and the now downsized Dunbar (Hastings) Hall.
Students are also pleased to know that the library has moved to a more centralized location in the former location of Shepperd arena, although they are disappointed to learn that the book inventory had been severely reduced to cover the costs of the move.
I would ask that the people who pulled the prank step forward and offer to help put the signs back out of respect for the maintenance department, but not to make it some sort of punishment.
Trust me, I do know the difference between a prank and vandalism.
As a junior at South High, I walked in on the first day of finals to learn that thousands of dollars of damage was done to the brand new bleachers in our football field, which in the end, I believe were outright replaced because the spray paint of “class of 2004” could not even be power washed off.
In elementary school, my church was vandalized with the sanctuary toilet-papered and profanity spray-painted across the walls of Sunday school rooms.
I understand that some pranks are unacceptable and don’t do more than just give people a good laugh (sometimes they don’t even do that).
This prank caused no property damage, nor insulted or injured nobody and in the end was funny, creative and humorous.
Thank you again for a funny, tasteful and respectful joke to relieve this “tired-of-idiotic-pranks” student.
