Aubeck Outdoors: Dates to remember

The nights are turning brisk, the sun is setting earlier day-by-day and the leaves are starting to show their fall colors.

Before we know it, deer season will have come and gone and we will be cheering on the sub-zero nights in hopes of safe ice for ice fishing.

There are many hunting seasons opening within the next two weeks in both North Dakota and Minnesota to be aware of.

There are also many questions as to how certain licensing is done for non-resident students to hunt and fish in North Dakota.

Non-resident students going to school in North Dakota can buy licenses at resident rates.

North Dakota

22: Bighorn sheep gun

23: Duck and goose opener

30: Swan opener

Minnesota

30: Duck and goose opener

30: Moose-northeast season

The easiest way for non-resident students to order a license is to do it online. Here are the steps to follow:

Go to http://gf.nd.gov and click on Buy or Apply for a license on the left side of the page

Click “Online Services,” then “Purchase a License”. Finally, click “Select Type of License”

When given the option for the first query, click on “Non-Resident.” and scroll to the bottom of the page where there is a Non-Resident student heading.

Read through the paragraph and if the terms apply to you, click the button over to “Yes, I am a student living in North Dakota”

Move on and order the licenses you desire and print it off when finished.

If you have any questions on ordering your license just throw us an email and hopefully we will be able to help you out.

Fishing has been difficult due to the big cold front that hit the area last Friday evening.

At times like this, working crankbaits aggressively can cause reaction strikes from lethargic walleyes with a case of lock-jaw.

Another thing to consider is working deep structure, slowly with live bait presentations such as jigs lindy rigs and bobbers.

Starting today, the Fargo-Moorhead Walleyes Unlimited will be hosting their annual Cormorant Classic Walleye Tourney at Cormorant Lake, MN.

The lake is south of Lake Park, MN on highway 5. The weigh-ins will be held at 5 p.m. at the YMCA Camp.

The final day of the tournament will be Saturday with interviews and awards to follow.

It will fun and interesting to see how the anglers put together their winning programs as they face off against yet, another cold front.

Good luck out there this weekend. If you have any stories, pictures, or ideas you would like to share email Auggie at christopher_augustin@yahoo.com or Jesse at Jesse.Beckers@ndsu.edu
