Softball in February
After opening the Aztec Invitational with a 2-0 victory over Long Beach State, the NDSU softball team dropped three games in a row before winning its final contest Sunday.
In the opening victory over Long Beach State, Allison Bakke threw a shutout and Jennifer Morse went 2-for-3 to lead the Bison.
The Bison lost their second game on Friday 9-1 to San Diego State.
NDSU managed just two hits in the contest, one from Morse and the other from Kelly Cantrell. Bison pitcher Bekki Rasmussen picked up the loss for the Bison. NDSU’s misfortunes continued Saturday, when the University of San Diego rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Bison 5-3. During the rally, San Diego had five hits and benefited from an NDSU throwing error. In the team’s final game of the day, the Bison fell to the University of Oregon, ranked No. 25 in the country, 6-1.
