Trends in apparel, textiles and retail change almost daily. Consumers (us!) are constantly changing what we want and how we prefer to shop.
Lately, the pendulum of retail is swinging back into small privately owned brick and mortar stores.
Over the last four or five years, downtown has turned into a shopping destination with the opening of several stores.
I have always loved going to small boutiques and finding unique items I will not find in other places. I also enjoy putting my money into local business rather than large corporations, although that is just my way.
Therefore I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to meet the owner of Proper & Prim located in downtown Fargo across from the Fargo Theater.
Teresa O’Day opened P&P three years ago hoping to create a fun place for people to shop downtown. She chooses items that are affordable, but have good quality, keeping most of the items at $50 or less.
O’Day described she offers a wide range of clothing—girly but with an edge.
You immediately fall in love with the edgy vintage warmth of the space, really enjoying your shopping experience.
While I was there, I could not help but shop—naturally—and was delighted with the range of items P&P had to offer.
Everything in the store had a good design, with unique additions, to make the piece personal to the buyer. They had coats, scarves, pants, tops, shoes, accessories and much more.
Whether you are a fashion fanatic or simplistic stylist, everyone can find something interesting.
I was excited to hear that Proper & Prim is having a “P&P turns 3” party. Everyone is invited to attend the store 6-8 p.m. Oct. 17, to wish them a happy birthday.
Treats, discounts, beverages and a photo booth will be there for shoppers’ enjoyment.
So get out there and discover what Fargo has to offer. I cannot wait to see what else downtown has to show me in the retail business!
Keep looking good NDSU!
