Truth about casual friday

Finals are now upon us, where a couple finals separate us from our Christmas vacation.
This time of the year can seem to be the most hectic, with the busy retail season, holiday shopping and more snow to shovel. With all these factors weighing us down, sometimes we may look like the zombie apocalypse has spread throughout campus.
I see people who appear to have merely rolled out of bed to get to class, wearing their pajama bottoms and sporting a less than flattering matted hair-do. Now I completely understand a casual lazy day, however I feel the amount of drab attire on campus can be a bit ridiculous.
This week, I want to inspire people to get somewhat ready in the morning for classes. Firstly, we can improve the general appearance of NDSU; we are not a bunch of lazy bed heads, so let’s not look like it. Secondly, it can increase productivity with schoolwork and your job.
In an article written by CoorporateSnobs.com, they describe how having casual Fridays can have its perks; however, they are far outnumbered by their drawbacks. In recent years, businesses have banned casual Fridays or stricter rules are enforced for what people can wear on those days.
In a study conducted by Dr. Jeffery L. Magee, over 500 firms they confirmed that “continually relaxed dress leads to relaxed manners, relaxed morals, relaxed productivity, and loss of individuality.” The article continued with the specifics of the findings.
Although we are all tired and have lots to do, does taking a little time for yourself in the morning sound too bad?
Even if I don’t have much time in the morning, I will put on a little makeup and throw my hair into some odd up-do to make myself feel representable. I would rather take that time and feel good about myself all day than go to school feeling sluggish and mortified of my own reflection.
Once a person dresses in a way that is flattering and comfortable, he or she will feel more productive, as opposed to wearing oversized baggy sweatpants and sweater, which one cannot help but feel slow and sleepy.
So take some time for yourself and feel successful. It does not take too long to brush your hair and throw on some jeans. Good luck with finals NDSU!
