Discount cards available

Student government kicks off new semester

After a minor discrepancy with the printing, NDSU discount cards are available for students to pick up.

The cards contain offers from Stamart Travel Centers, Tuffy’s Auto Service Center, Kroll’s Diner, FM Java, Ramada Plaza & Suites, SJ Hair Studio, Papa John’s Pizza, Grandma’s Saloon & Grill, Ruby Tuesday, Pita Pit, NDSU Dining Services, Salad Express and Brewed Awakenings Coffee House, Bud’s BP Amoco & Service Center, Domino’s Pizza and Cold Stone Creamery.

Students can pick up the cards in the student government office.

Rachel Hall, executive commissioner of academic & student affairs, said students should make full use of the discounts offered on the cards to ensure the discounts continue in the future. She said some vendors revoked their discounts because not enough students utilized them in past years.

Student president Kevin Teigen said in his executive report that the senators have roughly 100 days left in office, in which time he would like to see progress made in certain areas.

One of the items Teigen mentioned included working to lower the ConnectND fee, which he said has gone “above and beyond” what was originally anticipated.

“ As recently as the fall 2003 semester, the fee was $36; now, it is projected to be somewhere over $100 in just two years,” Teigen said. “For students to foot those kinds of increases for a system that is to be utilized by so many different groups is unjust. This is evidence to me that this project has been grossly under-planned from the start.”

Teigen said he would also like to see the senators work on alternative ways to fund the Board of Student Publications and improve the introductory University 189 course.
