Campus Attractions hiring new leaders for next year

Students who are looking to get involved on campus and hone their leadership skills can rest easy — the opportunity has arrived.

Campus Attractions is currently seeking applicants for all positions for the upcoming 2006-07 school year.

Current president Matt Skoy encourages all students to get involved with the organization for a number of reasons, including teamwork and program planning.

“ (Students) have a voice as to what programs will be brought onto campus,” Skoy said of being involved with Campus Attractions.

Another major perk of the job is the two-third, in-state tuition stipend each staff member receives.

Applications are available and can be picked up at the Campus Attractions office in the Memorial Union.

Applications are due Friday, Jan. 3, and can be turned in at the Student Activities Office in Memorial Union 360.

Interviews will begin Feb. 7 and will continue through Feb. 9 and 10, Skoy said.

Members of the interview panel this year include Skoy, CA adviser Kim Haiman, a student government representative, student body at-large member, CA non-returning member, a Memorial Union staff member and Memorial Union associate director of student activities, Steve Winfrey.

Skoy said once people are chosen for positions, there will be training with current staff members as well as with the new individuals.

Haiman said the training in the spring with the new staff is important to bring everyone together so they can start to know one another.

“ The reason I got into in campus attractions was because I saw a growth opportunity for myself,” Skoy said.

Skoy also noted that having a voice on campus was important, as well as the leadership development and career preparation involved with holding a position in the organization.

“ It’s a great stepping stone for event planning,” Skoy said.

Haiman herself got involved with campus attractions and ended up switching majors to pursue it as a career. This year marks the third year she has been the CA adviser and every year is a learning experience for her.

“ Different staff members bring different perspectives,” Haiman said.
