Two new additions fill court
Two associate justices were sworn into action at the student government meeting Sunday.
Sean Falconer and Marissa Clarin will immediately begin their duties serving the court and managing the spring elections process.
Student President Kevin Teigen noted the importance of a having a full court during the elections.
“ As busy as (the court is) throughout the campaign and election processes, I don’t think I’d want to have anything less than the full complement of justices to share the work,” Teigen said.
One of the new justices, Clarin, broke the norm in that she is only a freshman. An eagerness Teigen said is rare, but welcomed.
Clarin said she does not have any immediate plans involving specific tasks with the court but she is glad to be part of student government so early in her college experience.
In contrast, Falconer is a senior who plans to serve the court until May 2007.
He sees the new position as a chance to give back to the university.
“ It gives me a chance to represent the student body justly and fairly during my tenure,” Falconer said.
The majority of the responsibilities of an associate justice are to help with informational meetings, handle any violations of the election code, man the voting booths in the Union and run the debates, as well as various other events related to the spring elections.
Both justices commented on the swiftness of the process.
After responding to an e-mail about the position, they individually entered a meeting with Teigen and Chief Justice Caitlin Pandolfo. Shortly thereafter, they were notified of their appointment.
