Ready, set, vote

NDSU students began voting online today for the 2006-07 student government members.

Voting officially commenced at 8 a.m. this morning and lasts until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

With two presidential tickets and 23 students seeking senate positions, students have an opportunity to “be herd” on campus.

As citizens of the NDSU community, students are strongly encouraged to vote. Those who do could receive a reward for their concern for campus.

The first 500 voters will receive a coupon for either Coldstone or Papa John’s, said Jillian Huwe, student government public relations commissioner.

Student government is striving for as many students possible to vote in the election, and offering incentives may entice them to do so, Huwe said.

Varsity Mart has also donated six gift certificates that will be given to randomly chosen voters.

Not every senate position is being vied for. Students who receive write-in candidacy votes are eligible for a senate position. A student must receive at least one vote to be considered for a position.

The student government appointments committee will fill those seats not acquired through write-ins.

Applications for write-in candidates are due at 5 p.m. April 11 in the Student Activities Office.
