Collapse of Minard Hall

In the early hours of the morning on Dec. 27, the northwest section of Minard Hall collapsed due to structural failure. No one was injured during the collapse; however, the failure has relocated many spring semester classes, as well as leaving a slew of departments without access to their offices.

 

NDSU’s Hiring Freeze

In a press conference, President Hanson announced that NDSU will be undergoing a temporary hiring freeze in order to combat the budget shortfall. President Hanson attributed the shortfall to “lagging tuition collections” and increasing tuition waivers. There will be a re-examination of the hiring freeze after reviews of NDSU’s spring tuition income.

 

Bookstore now found downtown

Students and Fargo locals now have a bookstore catering to the downtown community. A new campus bookstore has made a home in the first floor of Cityscapes Plaza, NDSU’s on-campus downtown apartments. The store offers a wide variety of books, magazines, office supplies, snacks and a coffee shop. The bookstore is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

After over 30 years in public service, Senator Byron Dorgan announced that he will not seek a fourth term in the senate. His retirement came as a shock to many, as his campaign for the 2010 election was set to begin this spring. According to a press release sent out by Senator Dorgan, his top priority during his last year in public office will be to secure proper flood prevention for the Red River. Upon retirement from the senate, Dorgan plans to write two books and is interested in working on energy policy in the private sector.

 

Hoeven to run for US senate

Monday, Jan. 11. Hoeven is North Dakota’s 31st governor and is responsible for initiating EmpowerND, a multi-resource energy policy as part of North Dakota’s comprehensive development strategy. Hoeven, currently serving his third term as North Dakota’s Governor, faces the prospect of leaving his governorship mid-term if elected into the United States senate.
