The Air Force and Army ROTC hosted the 3rd annual Run to Remember outside of the Bentson Bunker Field House at NDSU Thursday. Races began at 8:15 a.m. with a kid’s race and a 5k run at 8:30 am.
The event created awareness for the sacrifices of military service men and women, and provided fundraising for the Fallen Bison Memorial.
“The Fallen Bison Memorial is a memorial to honor the students, staff and faculty of NDSU who have lost their lives while serving their country in the armed forces,” explained Samantha Mailhot, a cadet third class in the Air Force ROTC and the Community Liaison Officer Assistant for Eagle Wing I, the NDSU wing of AFROTC Detachment 610.
Mailhot says that participation has grown each year over the three years that the race has been in effect. This year there were 58 participants between the ages of two and 60 in the race.
“We encourage anyone to participate,” said Mailhot.
Mailhot also says the Army ROTC and the Air Force ROTC plan on putting this event on again in the future because they believe that it is important to the community and it is a good fundraising event for the Fallen Bison Memorial.
“The event and the Fallen Bison Memorial are important to the NDSU community because it shows our support and respect towards all past, present and future military members and the sacrifice that they have to make,” explained Mailhot.
