There were a slew of guest speakers at the meeting on Sunday. Any of the Tier 1 organizations that hadn’t presented an annual budget to the Student Government had to, as it was the last meeting for the Fall 2008 semester. Guest speakers included Kim Bruemmer for Campus Attractions, Bill Law for Fine Arts, Gary Fischer for Campus Recreation and Intramurals, Carmen Schatz for the Board of Student Publications and Paul Sobczak for ThunderRadio. Commissioner Chris McEwen reminded those present that the NDSU Library will be having extended hours, and that it will not be closing until the end of finals week.President Joe Heilman also reminded to have people tune into the SG show on ThunderRadio. It hasn’t been given an official name yet, but it can be heard every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. on 105.9 FM KNDS.
SR-10-09, which helped define the legislative goals of the NDSU lobbyist in the North Dakota congress passed unanimously. CR-09-09, a request for funds for Silver Wings, was passed unanimously, disbursing $1096.00 to the organization to help them get to their National Convention. SP-13-09 was passed disbursing $1,200.00 to the Congress of Student Organizations to help pay for their seminar next semester.
It is titled, “The Dance Floor Theory,” RR-03-09 was also passed unanimously, adding another commissioner, specifically an assistant to the Government Relations and intercollegiate Affairs, to the executive branch. Applications for the position are due Dec. 15.
There was a small shift in power as two senators left the SG and five new senators were sworn in. Senators Erik Nygren, and Sunny Kim will not be returning next semester. Kevin Black, Gregory Siems, Lezhao Ren, Brian Fier, and Kirsta Jeske will be joining the senate.
Senator Brent Woodward was appointed to the GRIA commision, senator Black was appointed to the University Senate, and thirteen senators were appointed to the Valentine Ball committee.
Finally, the rules of discussion were suspended a few times to allow SP-14-09 to be discussed and eventually passed 24-10-1. It was only a first read which is why the rules needed to be suspended, however, it regarded disbursing $1,000 to the Feminists Majority Leadership Alliance so that they could also help decorate campus with various religious and cultural decorations from over 10 major worldwide groups.
