Fifth Annual Diversity Conference Comes to NDSU

Cultural Diversity Resources is partnering with North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College to put on the fifth annual Cultural Diversity Conference, entitled “Together Building Strength.”
The conference will be held Tuesday at the Memorial Union with events happening throughout the day.
“The conference is geared for businesses, educators, community organizations and college students to provide a platform to discuss diversity and to learn how to work effectively with diverse groups of people for local, national and global competitiveness,” a press release about the conference said.
During the day there will be a number of sessions regarding either the workplace track or the education and community track.
The workplace track topics will cover items such as the impact of diversity training, having a diverse workforce, creating an environment for healthy life choices and more.
The education and community track topics will cover items such as understanding the needs of LGBT individuals and their families, communication across different generations, understanding the cultures and values of Bhutanese and Somali people and more.
These sessions will happen concurrently from 8:45 a.m. to noon and 1:20 to 4:45 p.m.
During the lunch break, Donald Asher will be giving the keynote speech. His speech is entitled “Tying Your Education to the Career Marketplace.”
Asher lives in northern Nevada but travels majority of the year to speak at colleges, corporate events and secondary schools. He is the founder of Asher Associates and is an internationally acclaimed author and speaker who focuses on the topics of careers and higher education.
The conference will end with a drawing for door prizes. After the conference, the Champions for Diversity Awards ceremony will take place.
Registration for the conference is $100. Members of the Fargo-Moorhead Human Resources Association, Chamber of Commerce or Tri-College and groups of three or more can register for $89. Students can register for $30 with lunch or $15 without lunch.
