‘College Night’ at the Coliseum
Despite the absence of a college hockey team at NDSU, students are still able to get their fill of great hockey action in Fargo.
The Fargo-Moorhead Jets are holding College Night at 7:05 p.m. Friday at the John E. Carlson Coliseum when they face off against the Bismarck Bobcats.
Students are lured in through a discounted price.
The Jets are marketing college students who are hockey fans by trying to create a college-type atmosphere at games.
“ We have a section we have deemed almost as a college section,” Scott Montesano, F-M Jets media relations director, said. “That is a section where everybody stands, yells and screams all game long. It feels like a college game.”
The discounted tickets for students will be the main draw and the Jets are planning on a good turnout based on past College Night promotions. The Jets held this promotion in December and slanted their promotion toward groups rather than individuals. This time the Jets are hoping to get students, themselves, to come out, not just student organizations.
The entertainment during the game will feature a sled race and a dice game that will include college students.
The Jets are also hoping their success so far this season will have an effect on attendance. They are currently in the top spot of the Central Division of the NAHL and have clinched a playoff berth with a 31-17-3 record. The Southern Minnesota Express is right on their heels with a 28-14-5 record.
The Jets are currently the fifth highest-scoring team in the 20-team league and are looking to move closer to wrapping up their division title.
The Bobcats are in third in that division with a 26-18-4 record and have not clinched a playoff berth yet.
